Hong Kong, China – December 8, 2021 – As announced on August 18 2020, BASF reinforces its commitment to invest in a Uvinul® A Plus production plant in Asia. The plant will now be built at the Care Chemicals Jinshan production site in China. The new plant is designed with a capacity of 1,500 metric tons per year and is expected to come on stream in the first half of 2023. BASF currently produces Uvinul® A Plus in Ludwigshafen, Germany and by taking this step will expand its production base.

“BASF is a global market leader in personal care ingredients and has deep expertise in production, as well as offering complete solutions that include sunscreen formulations. This investment underlines BASF’s commitment to the region and our customers,” said Dr. Rajan Venkatesh, Senior Vice President, Care Chemicals, BASF Asia Pacific.

“In recent years, consumer awareness on the importance of UV protection for skin health has been increasing. With this investment in Asia, BASF will enhance the production capacity of specialty UV filters in the region and increase supply security for our customers,” said Viju Jose, Vice President, Personal Care Solutions, Care Chemicals, BASF Asia Pacific. “Our site in Jinshan maintains high competency in manufacturing standards and is granted with multiple certifications like EFfCI GMP (European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients Good Manufacturing Practice) and RSPO (Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil). It produces a broad portfolio of emollients and specialty cosurfactants for the personal care industry.”

In Asia, BASF already produces broad spectrum UV filters (Tinosorb® S) at the Care Chemicals production site in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. With this investment, BASF further expands its production footprint of its UV filter portfolio in the region.

Uvinul® A Plus is one of the few photostable UVA filters available in the market today that reliably filters the sun’s harmful UVA rays and provides protection from free radicals and skin damage. The patented oil-soluble granule form offers excellent formulation flexibility, is free of preservatives and highly efficient at low concentration. Uvinul® A Plus is ideal for long-lasting sun care and skin care with anti-aging efficacy.
